Abstract
The participation of dentists in the academic activities on geriatric dentistry since 2004 has been gradually increasing, but there has been no opportunity to listen to and reflect their opinions until now. Therefore, a questionnaire survey was conducted by the Korean Academy of Geriatric Dentistry (KAGD) in order to find out the identity and role of geriatric dentistry and the right direction of development in the vision of geriatric dentistry in Korea. According to the survey, dentists are recognizing and demanding expertise in geriatric dentistry, and if the system is well established for visiting dental care, dentists’ participation is expected to be positive. From now on, it is necessary to provide substantial education about geriatric dentistry and foster professional manpower by reflecting the results of this survey regarding the direction of the geriatric dentistry education and KAGD. There’s also urgent needs for institutional framework necessary to activate visiting dental care.
